Stories is an alternative space art exhibition in Abuja featuring brilliant artists and showcasing the rich underground culture of art while facilitating conversations around art and between artists.
Our journey started with a spark of inspiration drawn from an art popup in Abuja. We also looked to other alternative art spaces that exist in global art capitals such as New York and our very own Lagos. As a curator and artist, I was captivated by the vibrant art scenes in these cities. I had seen pictures and videos of immersive, inspiring galleries all around Chelsea and Brooklyn, not to mention the inspiring spaces in Lagos like “The Treehouse” and I was determined to create a similar space in Abuja. This would be a place that would grow, inspire and amplify local art and artists.
The idea is simple yet powerful: to create an inclusive and diverse art space that challenges the traditional norms of the art world. We would promote experimental, contemporary, and alternative forms of artistic expression. With this vision in mind, we are embarking on a mission to bring together artists, art enthusiasts, and the community at large to celebrate the power of creativity.
Our gallery is not just a physical space; it’s a hub of artistic energy. It is where artists from diverse backgrounds, styles, and perspectives converge to showcase breathtaking talent. That is the feeling behind the “Where is STORIES” campaign. We are not limiting STORIES. to a physical space in the same way that we are not limiting the art styles. We embrace all forms of artistic expression, from paintings and sculptures to installations, multimedia art, and performances. We believe that art has the power to transform lives, challenge perceptions, and breed innovation. That is why we are determined to create a space that allows everyone experience the power of art.
One of our core objectives is to support and promote local artists, giving them a platform to showcase their work and amplify their voices. Abuja is a city brimming with untapped artistic talent, and we are committed to providing a nurturing environment for artists to flourish. We will hold regular exhibitions, workshops, and art talks, bringing together artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts to foster dialogue, exchange ideas, and promote artistic growth. We also will collaborate with other art spaces and organizations locally and globally. We hope to create a network of creative synergies that inspire and elevate the artistic community.
Our journey has been both challenging and immensely rewarding yet we’re just starting. We have seen the impact strong ideas like ours can have on the local art scene, witnessing the growth of artists who have found a platform for their creativity and a community that nurtures their passion. We have seen how art has the power to transform lives, break barriers, and create connections. We have seen Abuja embrace the spirit of creativity, and we intend to be a part of this artistic revolution.
As we look to the future, our vision is clear. We want to push the boundaries of artistic expression and promote diversity and inclusivity in the art world. We want to nurture and showcase the best of Abuja’s artistic talent, elevating the city to new artistic heights. We want to be a catalyst for cultural growth, inspiring the community and fostering a vibrant and dynamic artistic ecosystem.
In conclusion, our art gallery is not just a physical space; it’s a story of passion, inspiration, and determination. It’s a testament to the power of creativity and its ability to transform lives and communities. As Abuja’s first alternative art space gallery, we are committed to embracing creativity, supporting local artists, and contributing to the cultural growth of our city.
